PwC Co-op Interview with Morgan Brodsky (March 2022)

Morgan Brodsky is an accounting and data science major. She joined TAMID in Fall 2020 (Lamed class), and has since been a consulting project manager and professional events committee lead.

What is your co-op?

“I am an External Audit Co-op at PwC.  My main responsibilities include performing audit procedures such as testing accounts receivable, inventory, etc.  for Tech, Media, and Telecom companies.”

Why did you choose this co-op?

“I did my first co-op in tax and didn’t love it, so I wanted to try a different area in accounting which is why I chose to try auditing. Additionally, for my first co-op I worked at a small regional firm, so I wanted to try working at a large, global firm. I was drawn to PwC because of all of the people I met during the recruitment process. I got a great sense of the culture and felt that these were the types of people I could see myself working and getting along with.”

What was the co-op application/interview process like for you? Do you have any advice to other TAMID members who will be starting their job search in the future?

“My biggest piece of advice would be to get all of your applications in as early as you can – it will save a lot of stress later on. The interviewing process can be stressful, especially for large accounting firms (they all happen the same week) so expect to have a lot of back to back interviews. Research the companies ahead of time, but most importantly just be yourself. This is an unpopular opinion, but I did not do much interview preparation in terms of practicing my answers because I wanted to appear as natural as possible in my interviews and not seem scripted.”

What is your favorite thing about the company you work at?

“My favorite thing about the firm is the support that I receive. Everyone is super approachable and really is looking out for your best interest.  I am able to receive support from my teams and all the different mentors/coaches the firm provides for their interns. It makes the stressful days that much more manageable to know that I always have someone looking out for me.”

What are some projects you have been working on?

“I have been working on year-end audits, so performing audit procedures such as testing accounts receivable, inventory, etc.”

Describe what a day of work look like for you:

“My co-op is hybrid, so I go into the office twice a week. Regardless, I start my day off with a team meeting where we all create a plan for the day and ask initial questions. I then start on my plan for the day which includes doing the testing procedures I have mentioned (i.e. testing inventory). I usually have another team meeting later into the evening and we either wrap up for the day or create a night plan if it is a busy time.”

Is this your first co-op? If not, how is this co-op different from your previous co-op?

“This is my second co-op, and it is very different from my first co-op. My first co-op was in tax and at a small regional firm in Boston whereas my co-op is in audit and at a large global firm. Therefore, the teams I am working with are larger, the clients we work with are larger, and the work itself is completely different this time around.”

What do you hope to gain or learn from your co-op experience?

“I hope to gain accounting experience and skills that I will use throughout my career as well as expand my professional network.”

Any advice to someone who is looking to have a co-op similar to yours in the future?

“Ask lots of questions and don’t be afraid to speak up. Also, always have a pen and paper nearby to take notes when someone is talking/explaining something to you.“
